Hiring Disability and Accessibility Advisor

LTRT Accessibility, a division of LTRT, is dedicated to transforming our communities by removing barriers in work, school, and transportation. We recognize the spectrum of ability across the human experience and work with organizations in their journeys towards universal accessibility. Projects delivered in the past year include:

• Guiding the Senate of Canada through an accessibility self-assessment, including consultations with people with disabilities and discussions with international legislative bodies.
• A gap analysis to identify areas that VIA Rail could improve the accessibility of its hiring and recruitment practices.
• Developing accessibility plans under the Accessible Canada Act for the Senate of Canada, VIA Rail, and other federal entities.
• Building an accessibility and inclusion assessment tool for the Meewasin Valley Authority, an urban park authority in Saskatoon studying the feasibility of becoming a National Urban Park with Parks Canada
• Developing resources to enhance how the Ontario post-secondary sector incorporates accessibility into the selection of educational technology  

Responsibilities 

Disability and Accessibility Advisors tackle a wide variety of projects, applying their smarts, experience, and creativity at a culture-focused firm. They actively engage in business development and foster quality relationships with clients. Their responsibilities could include:

• Researching best practices relevant to each client.
• Accessibility and compliance reviews of organizations’ internal and external operations, including information technology, employment, communications, programs and policies, and procurement.
• Developing accessibility guides.
• Report writing and documentation.
• Developing surveys and conducting interviews and focus groups.
• Presentation and workshop development and delivery.
• Proposal development.
• Project management and coordination.  

Qualifications 

The successful Disability and Accessibility Advisor will have:

• A passion for improving accessibility and preferably, lived experience.
• A degree in a relevant field or related experience.
• Knowledge of accessibility best practices and legal requirements.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including working with people with disabilities and clients.
• Ability to work independently as well as in team environments.
• Advanced writing and communication skills.
• Have interests outside of work and a willingness to play a board game now and again.

We mix working meetings and workshops regularly into our projects to keep us in sync internally as well as with clients. Most importantly, we’ll support each other during crunches so no one bears the load alone. 

Balanced: We value a balanced approach to work and life. We’ll crack a joke when the time is right, and crack down when it’s not. We’ll follow up that long work week with necessary recovery time off (and maybe a board game over drinks to accelerate the process!).
